Black and Gold Logs and Lillies 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

These designs look more like the back of a pieced Log Cabin quilt.

Almost the same, but this time the Log Cabin block is facing the opposite direction

Curved logs on teh other side of the design above.

Once again the pieced blocks would be turned inside out.

My favourite is the last design, which shows the blocks in the previous design turned inside out.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Log Cabin Quilting 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

It always amazes me just how some rather common block designs can be twisted and turned to create some very interesting quilt designs. The first design uses Courthouse Steps.

Just four blocks recoloured makes a more interesting overall design.

Change the colouring in eight blocks, different again.

The fourth design is very different, and I love it!

Something totally different for the last design for this week’s mid week Log Cabin display.

Not the most brilliant colour choice, but the contrast is good enough to show off the designs which is my main aim with every design.

More Log ...

Black and Gold Logs and Lillies 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

These designs don’t really include the pieced blocks … just the quilting.

So, are they wholecloth designs, or the back of a Log Cabin quilt.

I think they would work as either, though some would work better as one or the other.

I have spent quite a lot of time trying to work out the stitchin sequence for the Log Cabin part of these designs, and have reached the conclusion that I would do them by hand unless there was a machine which could start and stop without the need to tie off or hiding all those loose ends. It ...

Simple Log Cabin Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Simple Log Cabin Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

Life on the American frontier was hard. There were prairies to tame, trees to fell, and fences to build. There was butter to churn, laundry to scrub, and water to fetch.

Despite such labor-filled days, those resourceful pioneer women found ways to whip up easy patterns like the Log Cabin block. These simple, pretty quilts were used not only as bed coverings, but as windows, room dividers, and doors, too!

Log Cabin Quilting 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Not very inspiring colours, but interesting designs, including quilting motifs.

This is another project file about to be retired … I still have some blocks to sort in my Block Library, then I will start using the sorted blocks to start new projects, some of them with new blocks, and new colours.

Not an intersting setting for a Log Cabin quilt, but an interesting setting to show off some quilting on a Log Cabin quilt.

I like the one above.

Last one for today, and from this project file … and it is my favourite for today.

More Log Cabin designs next ...

Black and Gold Logs and Lillies 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Today’s designs are either wholecloth Log Cabin or the back of pieced Log Cabin quilts.

More accurately the second and third are Log Cabin designs, the first and the last two are Courthouse Steps.

I have been sitting at a computer and playing with quilt designs for anything from a few minutes to a couple of hours most days over the last 10 years, and I am still amazed at the difference a few twists and turns of blocks make to a favourite traditional quilt.

So far in this project file all I have done is use the Symmetry ...
